Make sure your tidy whities are fasten tight and in place. UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit falls upon us tonight and with it, a night of MMA we are sure will be talked about for ages to come.
Diaz vs. Condit is the perfect candidate for fight of the year honors but the rest of the card promises to be equally entertaining.
After much anticipation and turmoil around Nick Diaz, he finally gets a shot at the UFC welterweight title, albeit the interim version of it, against a guy that he probably had no plans to go up against just yet, “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit.
This fight has all the ingredients to become the next big precursor for MMA around the world. Diaz vs. Condit will surely become the new Griffin vs. Bonnar I, pulling even more new fans into the fastest growing sport in the world today.
Join us tonight as we undergo yet another Live Chat for a UFC pay-per-view event. The MMA Truth’s Live Chat is officially a year old now and we are more than proud to have had the same crowd in every edition presented, and then some. Thank you all for your amazing support. Now let’s just play psychic and predict some main card fights.
Main Card (Pay-Per-View)
Middleweight Bout
Ed Herman vs. Clifford Starks – Starks, undefeated in eight professional outings, faces a new animal in Ed “Short Fuse” Herman who is looking to win his third straight fight—and finish—after a two year layoff due to a knee injury suffered in his fight against Aaron Simpson. Starks appears to be the stronger man but Herman’s submission game and newfound confidence in his striking will give him the edge.
Herman by TKO in the first round.
Bantamweight Bout
Renan Barao vs. Scott Jorgensen – Barao is the veteran between these two exciting bantamweights and nearly triples the amount of finishes Jorgensen has in his record. A good candidate for “Fight of the Night.”
Barao via submission in the second round.
Welterweight Bout
Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce – Mike Pierce gets another shot at a top 10 welterweight in the form of Koscheck, who’s coming off a KO win over Matt Hughes at UFC 135. Pierce, who lost a unanimous decision against John Fitch and more recently dropped a split decision against Johnny Hendricks, seems a new man now that he is going for probably his first chance at getting into title contention mix. Pierce has shown inconsistent strategies in victory and defeat against Hendricks and Paul Bradley.
Josh Koscheck by unanimous decision.
Heavyweight Bout (Co-Main Event)
Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum – Nelson, who has lost two of his last three fights, welcomes Fabricio Werdum back to the UFC after a decent run on Strikeforce that includes the dissipation of the Fedor Emelianenko myth, and one of the worst heavyweight fights ever recorded in pro MMA, Overeem vs. Werdum. Both world class grapplers, this fight will be mighty interesting if it goes to the ground. Then again, I think we are in for a slugfest.
Nelson via TKO in first round.
UFC Interim Welterweight Championship Bout (Main Event)
Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit - Diaz, a volume puncher, overwhelms opponents with a relentless attack and non-stop pressure. Diaz’s accuracy with his hands and his ability to dominate distances is second to none. Diaz is also willing to eat a lot of shots just to be able to land a few of his own in the exchange. That could prove dangerous against a striker like Carlos Condit. Both men are amazingly well-rounded and some of the most dangerous grapplers in the division.
Carlos Condit via TKO first or second round. If the fight goes longer than two rounds, I predict it will be fight of the year.
